There are more and more skiers, snowboarders and other mountain enthusiasts in Scotland who want to go off-piste (including me! The G-Force!) There are risks (are you paying attention, G-Force?). When skiing or snowboarding in the backcountry, you should be extremely aware. Mountain walkers, Munro-baggers and other mountaineers should also be aware of this.
The best way to stay safe and have fun is to master a few basic safety skills. Snow fans are invited to attend a “Everything Backcountry”, arranged by Snow Rehab, at Snow Factor in Braehead this Saturday.
The Scottish mountains are currently bare, but there’s fresh snow at Scotland’s one indoor destination for real snow, making it the ideal setting for the off-piste workshop.
This session includes:
Avalanche Awareness Training
Backcountry Skills Coaching
Equipment demos
Seminars by industry professionals
Video of Ski Touring
Tutorial on Split Board
Angus McLean Wilson will share his experience as a Canadian ski guide, and offer advice for those planning off-piste adventures this winter.
Gordon Hodge of Snow Rehab said, “Backcountry Safety is an important topic for us here at Snow Rehab. We want to educate and inspire everyone, young or old, experienced or new, about the importance of safely venturing beyond the rope into the backcountry.
Snow Factor Day will be the ideal platform for you to begin your backcountry adventure.
Everything Backcountry begins at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 25, 2018. The seminars are free to attend. Lift passes are required for all on-slope activity.
