You may find yourself wishing that “just the right thing” had been invented when you are walking, skiing or cycling. It would be great if someone invented a way to keep my hands warm and dry while I was cycling or a device that could carry children older than 0-5 years old while hiking hills. Or if they had developed a solution for me so my hair wouldn’t fly into my face in strong winds when walking, cycling or skiing.
I also admire those who are able to come up with the “perfect thing” before putting it into action.
PortaSki – Introducing the PortaSki
PortaSki “is one of those things”. This is a gadget that allows you to carry your skis on wheels. It’s marketed as the “perfect thing” to overcome the burden of having to carry skis on vacation. We all just deal with carrying our skis. If you’re strong, tall and reasonably fit it should be ok.
For some reason, I’ve never considered inventing an invention to help me carry skis and snowboards for long distances. To relieve myself of the discomfort, I have been carrying my skis on my arm or shoulder at different angles. Now that I think about it, this is really annoying.
You have to also be very careful when you are in a crowd so you don’t accidentally swing your skis around and strike someone.
Some rucksacks allow skis to be attached to the bag so they can then be carried on your back vertically. I’ve seen people do this more when going off to backcountry ski excursions than walking around a ski resort.
The wheeled PortaSkigadget looks like a great idea.
PortaSki test
I’ve never been skiing (due to the lack of snow this winter), but have used skis with my PortaSki. The process of attaching skis to this wheeled device is quite simple. You just need to fiddle around with the straps and you are off. Each time, the attaching process will become easier.
You pull your skis at your side, just like you would a suitcase with wheels. It is strong enough to handle different terrains, and it doesn’t topple over.
The PortaSki is also easy to pack in your luggage when you go on vacation because it’s lightweight, only three inches wide and tall. When you want to go from your chalet to the lifts, you can put the skis onto the PortaSki. You then walk quickly and without a burden. The gadget is too small to be carried in your backpack, but you can store it in the lockers at the lifts.
The only thing I have a problem with is having to walk with both the gadget and skis through crowded areas. You could end up making other skiers trip over your skis if you drag them behind. Most people are probably looking down at the ground or their feet as they walk, but this gadget might be difficult to use in an extremely busy situation.
PortaSki costs PS24.95, plus PS5 for shipping. This is a great price for something which could “be just the thing” to overcome the hassle of having to carry your skis.
